Another Year of Growth
The success of the JA Laird Student Learn to Grow program cannot be understated. Teaching kids the value of growing food to sustain not only a healthy ecosystem but also a healthy body is invaluable and Home Hardware is proud to be a supporter of this initiative.
Paul and Sonja representing the Gro for Good program, stopped by to teach students about nutrition and making healthy food choices. The Gro for Good program is committed to supporting green space solutions that improve communities throughout Canada and help our youth and communities enjoy the benefits of gardening; benefits, such as encouraging healthy eating habits while learning how to grow your own food and the health benefits that come from being outdoors and interacting with nature and other members of the community.
Paul and Sonja also treated the kids to a healthy lunch full of healthy choices. The idea behind the community garden is to educate and enable people in the valley to grow their own food in order that any excess would go to the food bank to help feed people in need in the Columbia Valley. The local foundation, Groundswell, plays an integral part in this program. Groundswell Community Greenhouse and Gardens promote food sustainability through education and the advancement of innovative projects that result in health for people, the environment, and the economy.
